January Juicing

January is for juicing. Juicing is good for a reset, there are several nutritional benefits. You will get an immediate influx of vitamins and minerals from the juices, without the fiber to slow the absorption. Of course, you need fiber on a daily basis - a lot of it - but the juice cleanse is a temporary, and only a short-term treatment. There is no doubt if you choose to perform a juice cleanse, clear it with your doctor first - there are some risks with a drastic dietary change, even if only a short period of time. If you are taking medications, and you want to partake in a juice cleanse - one that you only juice and not eat any additional food - again, please talk to you doctor, the absorption of your medications may be affected. I just successfully completed a 7 day cleanse and I feel great. I only drank fresh pressed juices, no other food. Here's my plan for a juice cleanse: First, choose whether you would like to do a 3, 5, or 7 day cleanse. Next prepare your refrigerator. This may sound needless, but it is not, you need to have a clean easy working space in order to have your veggies readily available when you are ready to juice. Besides, your refrigerator will look amazing with all that beautiful food! Buy your veggies. Choose fruits and vegetables that you like in a variety of colors. It's important to mix up the colors as they indicate all of the phytonutrients, the deeper the color - the more phytonutrients. Wash your fruits and veggies and have them ready for you. During my cleanse, I made simple juices and stuck with mostly the same routine. I also experimented with adding different herbs and spices, like smoked paprika, turmeric, ground mustard and red peppers, this was a fun way for me to keep things interesting on day 3,4,5... Try juicing celery everyday, celery juice is very nutritious and actually tastes a bit salty, but so refreshing! Juicing helped me jump start my return to healthier eating after overindulging during the holidays. I had many hungry moments, but I was able to overcome them by distraction. You can do anything for one week! Be prepared, that's the key. Be strong to keep going, you got this!
