This month is the heart month! Often, when thinking of February, we think it’s a month of valentines, thoughts of love, romantic dinners, chocolate. But how about including thoughts of heart health? There are so many simple things to incorporate into your daily routine that are absolutely heart healthy and amazing! How about adding a handful of almonds or walnuts to your daily snacking - make sure they are unsalted raw. Oatmeal is a great way to start the day - cut up an apple (skins and all) add to your morning oatmeal while cooking. Seeds. Flaxseeds contain omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and phytoestrogens to boost heart health - sprinkle on your salad or soup - and in your smoothie - 2 Tablespoons everyday are all you need. Chia seeds also provide omega 3, fiber and protein, add 2 T to 1 cup of plant milk with some fresh fruit, a drop of maple syrup for sweetness, let it sit in the fridge for a bit - then you have a fantastic heart healthy-no guilt pudding to snack on! And of course, a little red wine and dark chocolate won’t hurt!
